OUR HISTORY
Dalyellup Dockers Football Club was formed in June 2007 and proudly represents the town of Dalyellup in the South West Junior Football League. We also welcome a range of players from Gelorup, Capel, Stratham, Bunbury and surrounds.
Originally known as Dalyellup Beach Football Club, our name changed to Dalyellup Dockers in 2009. This was to reflect the affinity our club has with partner Fremantle Football Club, and to avoid confusion with the local soccer club of similar name.
Like all community clubs, over our lifetime we have experienced seasons of great success and seasons of hardship. We have always stood together as a community, parent-led, inclusive club and are proud of our long history representing the town of Dalyellup.
In 2024 we have begun the move to our new home at Ferndale Park, thanks to the Capel Shire for making this happen. We are excited for this new beginning, with changerooms, playgrounds, canteen and excellent facilities, and look forward to a fantastic season at our new home!
OUR MISSION
The main aim of the Dalyellup Dockers Football Club is to administer, promote, manage, develop and encourage children from 5 to 17 years to participate in the playing of Australian Rules Football, and compete within the South West Junior Football League (SWJFL). We also strongly promote the education of coaches, administrators and umpires of Australian Rules Football within the Dalyellup locality, and aim to promote a supportive environment which encourages participation at all levels.
We aim to be an inclusive and encouraging club, with all participants (both playing and volunteer) treated like family. Past players and their families are always welcome at our club.
The Dalyellup Dockers Football Club closely adheres to the Western Australian Football Commission's (WAFC) Health and Safety Policy. Any conflicts or issues which may arise are treated fairly and without prejudice; it is of importance that all players and volunteers feel safe and have their best interests cared for.
We also aim to grow the partnership with the Fremantle Dockers Football Club with our club and the local community, and optimise relationships between all football stakeholders within the SWJFL District.
OUR INDIGENOUS STORY
In 2022, a decision was made by the Dalyellup Dockers Football Club to change our Club Jerseys and merchandise permanently to incorporate an Indigenous design. Annually, the AFL/Community Clubs undertake an Indigenous Round to recognise the contribution First Nation Peoples have had, past and present, towards the game of football and to acknowledge Country. The Committee wanted to undertake something similar, however the cost of arranging a player jersey for one specific round prevented this. Therefore, it was decided to incorporate our Indigenous design as a permanent feature of our Club merchandise. This is to celebrate our relationship with the Noongar Boodjar that we live and play upon every day, and to give our respect; not just for one round, but always.
Wardandi Boodja~ Saltwater Peoples Country
We wish to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the South West, the Wardandi People on Noongar Boodjar. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and emerging. We celebrate and honour the stories, traditions and the living, ongoing cultures of our First Nations Peoples and their connections to Country and Water.
Kehaan McGuire is the talented local artist who created our design and this is his story/meaning behind it:
“The large circle that has symbols within represents a meeting place. In this case, it represents the Dalyellup community, and each circle is larger than the other with more symbols representing our growing community. Circles within Aboriginal art also represent strong connections and long periods of time so the sense of community within Dalyellup will last for a very long time.
Down the bottom, there are waves representing Dalyellup’s beaches and the symbols within the waves represent bodies of water, so the ocean, and also the lakes.
The kangaroo symbols that travel around the jersey are there to represent Dalyellup’s wildlife, and the star symbols represent guidance, strength, and luck.”
